Walk your troubles away
October 1 - 7 is National Walk Your Dog Week which was created to raise awareness of canine obesity, and behavioural issues caused by a lack of exercise and mental stimulation. It is estimated that over 50% of dogs are overweight in both Canada and the United States. Obesity affects your pet's health and longevity, and most dogs and cats today have no choice in what they eat or how much exercise they get.
So take your dog for a walk. Every day.
The health benefits of a nice, relaxed walk are as good for you as they are for your dog. Walks are an opportunity to bond with your dog and build trust. The more you walk, the more experiences you will share, and the more you will learn about each other. Walks are the perfect place to lay the groundwork for the few simple, basic commands your pet needs to learn to stay safe. Your dog learns through practice and consistency, so remember to keep your expectations the same each day, and to make the walks a fun and enjoyable experience. Walks can be a chance to socialize, be in nature, burn energy, or just relax. Whatever the reason, know that your dog loves to go on walks with you.
Dogs need to get outside to move, sniff, and explore. Commit to a daily walk and you will have a happier, healthier, calm and well behaved dog. Pawsh Pet Place believes this is the single most important thing you can do for your dog and we are happy to help you along this path.
